Rensar baksidan

by on jun.28, 2011, under Home, Personal

Oh noes! Another amateur photographer :P

by on jun.27, 2011, under Pictures

So, after many many years of whining, my wife got fed up with it and made me buy our very first DSLR camera and so far, I’m very very very pleased with it!

The camera is a Sony A390 with a 18-55 lense and along with it I bought a 16gb  SanDisk Ultra (30mb/s), an external flash Sony HVL-F42AM and a nice bag to carry the toys camera equipment with.

There’s SO much to learn now though. It feels pretty overwhelming to be honest but a whole lot of fun. I’m without a doubt sure that this will increase the fun factor of our vacation and upcoming events. Sure, it’s nothing you carry with you every day (although I’ll most likely will) but when you do take it with you, you’ll get some fantastic shots! Specially when our kids have some kind of show, football game or whatever.

And, like every photographer out there, nature pictures are a whole lot of fun to take. It’s most likely very dull for someone other than the photographer him/her-self but heck! This is my spot and my pictures will open the doors to other dimensions! I mean, A flower! Some ants! BERRIES!

So, hopefully I’ll be able to post some better pictures, other than very common stuff 🙂 But it’s a whole lot of fun and with patience I’ll get a photo of an UFO or maybe a cow smoking weed.

latest iPad app purchase: Animation Desk

by on maj.05, 2011, under Applications, Fun, iPad

I was a bit bored during the weekend and I saw an add that caught my attention. The add was regarding Animation Desk for the iPad which basically lets you do some fun simple animations.

About the app:

As stated above, it let’s you do some simple animations (well.. depends on the person behind the pen I guess) and is actually a good bit of fun. Not only for the kids but pretty much for everyone. I was having a laugh while doing very…. sophisticated animations. Animation Desk let’s you see what’s drawn in the two last ”piece of paper” to let you make more accurate animations. You can of course duplicate the paper (well, layer) and then change that one to make the animation look smooth. You get different size pencils and colors and a good overview of the canvas when using ”fullscreen”.

The verdict:

Its fun but it does lack some features. Smaller animations would be great to export to a .gif and not only movies. I wish also that you could ”move” what you’ve drawn. That would make animations more easy (moving backgrounds for example) but other than that, it fills its purpose.

Rate: 3 out 5 and the reason it doesn’t get a four is just simply because it doesn’t really make you urge to make an animation. But if you’re into doing animations, then I’m pretty sure you’ll find this better.

Sample

What would a short review be without a sample? (might not be visible since it’s on facebook. dunno if it’s ”locked” to my profile or not)

Inför vasaloppet och mina tankar runt träningen, utrustningen osv

by on feb.18, 2011, under Cross-country skiing, Fitness

Skidhandskar = 450kr
Vasaloppsavgiften = 1120kr
Tåg till Mora = 360kr
Buss till Sälen = 150kr
Boende i Mora = 400kr

Totalt 6880

Easy as that.

Blank page after login on a WordPress page, wp-login.php

by on feb.01, 2011, under Developing

So I kinda screwed up and changed my database password and totally forgot about my page. This caused the page to be down for a few days without me noticing it until a kind soul told me it was down. (Yes… I’m a bad blogger and I only blog when I feel like it). Anyway. After changing the password in wp-config.php I got the page up and running, but I just coulnd’t login. I kept coming to a blank page after trying too. The problem was that I opened the file with notepad and upon saving it, it truncated it.

how to fix it? Just simply download wordpress again and take wp-config-sample.php (or if you have yours untouched) and insert your settings there, making sure to not add extra spaces anywhere or truncating the file. Silly error but still 🙂

Making Polls with Xforms in a usercontrol

by on dec.06, 2010, under Developing

XForm is a somewhat of a lazy way out. You know you should do the forms yourself but XForm is simple for the editors and also saves you a lot of job. Anyway, if you want to use XForm to make a poll, you’ll need to make a few adjustments.

First:
Create your new control and add an XForm property to the controls pagetype

Second:
Here you can take the template code from EPiServer to get the basic XForm functions.

Third:
Create your XForm in EPiServer and assign it to your page. Make sure to let anonymous post and also multiple times (Because all your users will be anonymous and you want anonymous to be able to vote more than once)

Fourth:
Create a cookie so people only vote once (they can delete their cookies and vote over and over so if you want a more secure way, go ahead and do it =D) and also so you can display the results insetad of the poll whenever they visit the page again.

The cookie could look something like this:
[sourcecode lang=”c#”]
private void SetCookie()
{
var cookie = new HttpCookie(”Poll-” + page.PageLink.ID);
cookie.Values.Add(”voted”, ”true”);
cookie.Expires = DateTime.Now.AddYears(24);
Response.Cookies.Add(cookie);
}
[/sourcecode]
and then you can check for the cookie and give the user different views depending if they voted or not. And that code could look something like this
[sourcecode lang=”c#”]
return;
var cookie = Request.Cookies.Get(”Poll-” + page.PageLink.ID);
if (cookie== null)
SetupForm();
else
SwitchView(null,null);
[/sourcecode]
Fifth:
If you’re using your XForm directly on a page, then you probably don’t need this step and you’re pretty much set. But if you want to use this as a usercontrol and add the poll with webparts or anything alike you’ll need to do this step.

The thing with EPiServers Statistics is that it will always fetch ”this.PageLink” so if you’re using this as a webpart/control it will try to get the currentpages xform property which will be null. Even if you load the XForm correctly and fetch it from your usercontrol path, the statistics won’t do it. In order to make Statistics work you’ll have to do this:
[sourcecode lang=”c#”]
Statistics.PageLink = page.PageLink;
Statistics.PageGuid = Form.PageGuid;
[/sourcecode]
Otherwise it will take the currentpage pagelink and pageguid. So basicly, you need to set up the Statistics just as you need to set up XForms.

Good luck!

iPhone tips from an iPhone newbie: Send multiple-sms

by on okt.14, 2010, under iPhone

So I just got my very first iPhone (iPhone 4) and being an android user I found some stuff to be rather… difficult and uncomfortable. Anyway, I was trying to send multiple-sms telling some of my contacts and as soon as I added another contact, it changed to ”Group-mms”. I didn’t notice this so I just sent it away and most of the people don’t even have MMS enabled, recieving just a message that I sent them an MMS.

What you need to do is go to Settings > Messages and turn off MMS. Then it will send multiple-sms. Feels really really silly to have to turn off a feature to use another. And if anyone knows a better and smoother way please do let me know 🙂

Playing Starcraft II Turnering. Mitt första ”castande” :)

by on okt.10, 2010, under Fun, Gaming

(Sorry about the swedish post but due swedish content, it felt unnessesary to post it in english)

Enjoy! 🙂

FindPagesWithCriteria with PropertyCriteria and PropertyDataType.Boolean set to false

by on maj.08, 2010, under Developing

Huge title but pretty much what this post is about.

To optimize your FindPagesWithCriteria, it’s good to be as specific as you can. i.e not use one criteria, get 500 hits back and then just use the top 5 out of those. Anyway, when using a PropertyDataType.Boolean and you want to get back those pages that has this set to ”false” you can’t really set the value to ”false”. Why? Because when the property is false, it has never been set which makes it null.

Let’s see the code:
[sourcecode lang=”c#”]
PropertyCriteria crit = new PropertyCriteria{
Condition = CompareCondition.Equal,
Name = ContentPropertyStrings.Finished,
Type = PropertyDataType.Boolean,
Value = ”false”,
Required = true
};
[/sourcecode]

The code above won’t give you any hits since there won’t be any property set to false, because those properties are null. What you need to do is what you can see below.

[sourcecode lang=”c#”]
PropertyCriteria crit = new PropertyCriteria{
Condition = CompareCondition.Equal,
Name = ContentPropertyStrings.Finished,
Type = PropertyDataType.Boolean,
IsNull = true,
Required = true
};
[/sourcecode]

An old problem but I still get this question from time to time so might aswell post it 🙂
